Launch of SJSU’s Global Studies Online BA Degree
The Global Studies Online program at San José State University enrolled its first class of students in Fall 2010. The first fully online bachelor’s degree-completion program at San José State University, the Global Studies Online program is the only online social science degree in the CSU system. Applicants to the program must have at least 60 transferable semester credits and be admissible to San José State University with junior-level standing. Completing the Global Studies degree online allows you to take classes from anywhere, and to schedule your school work around other life and family commitments. Courses are taught in accelerated 8-week terms. Students take 2 courses per term, completing their degree in just 2 years (5 terms per year). All courses are taught by faculty from San José and San Diego State Universities and are comparable to courses taught in the residential Global Studies program. The program confers a BA degree from San José State University.
In addition to course-work, students in the Global Studies Online program are required to pursue an international learning experience and demonstrate language competence at an intermediate level. To satisfy the language requirement, the GSO program will arrange for students to be tested near their homes in the second language of their choice. The international experience requirement can be satisfied through an international internship, short-term study abroad, a specially designed international project, or some combination of the above. The GSO program will work with students to design a program that meets their education goals and works within their time constraints.
